What is PCI and why is it important?

Cardholder data security it critically important.  In 2006 all major card brands came together to form The Payment Card Industry Security Council.  This organization develops the governing requirements known as "Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards" (PCI-DSS)

  All merchants need to adhere to the council's requirements to be considered "PCI COMPLIANT".
